Councillor Teresa O’Neill was elected to Bexley Council to represent Brampton Ward in May 1998, since when she has enjoyed the ability to help many constituents with their problems and participated in campaigns to protect services in the Ward.
Councillor O’Neill has held various positions of responsibility within the Council including that of being a Member of Bexley's first Cabinet as the Cabinet Member for Lifelong Learning and Leisure (promoting education for life) in 2001/2. She became Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group/Opposition Spokesman for Education and Youth Services in 2003, Deputy Leader of the Council/Cabinet Member for Children's Services following the change of administration in 2006, and became Leader of the Council in May 2008. During her period of leadership she has, amongst other things, introduced the Strategy 2014 programme as an innovative and forward looking plan of managing the Council’s resources for the benefit of our residents in difficult times. She is Chairman of the Bexley Health and Wellbeing Board.
Mayoral Adviser for Outer Borough Relations, Vice Chairman, Executive Member responsible for Health and Leader of the Conservative Group on London Councils as well as a member of the LGA Improvement Board. Formerly a member of the London Finance Commission. Member of the London Health Board.
Councillor O’Neill has been involved in politics for many years and has a background in the Financial Services Sector. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the theatre, cinema and eating out.
